Salvation and Confession of Faith

“I Believe That Jesus Christ Is The Son of God”

This article deals with the confession of our faith as we study the steps in the plan of salvation. We will notice that confession is: Required…..the meaning of confession….it’s referred to as the good confession…..it’s a foundation…..notable examples…..happy results…..living faithful…..dire warnings and more facts concerning confession.

Confession of Faith is a Must for Salvation.

In Luke 12:8 Jesus said, “Whoever shall confess me before men, him shall the son of Man also confess before the angels of God.” In fact Jesus commands confession. Matthew 12:32,33 says, “Whosoever therefore shall confess me before men, him will I confess also before my Father which is in heaven. But whosoever shall deny me before men, him will I also deny before my Father which is in heaven.” It is clear that in the absence of confession of our faith in Christ, there can be no forgiveness of sins and no hope of heaven.

The Manner of Confession:

As stated before in Luke 12:8…..”before men” meaning publically. It’s to be oral. Romans 10:10 “For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.”

It’s Called The Good Confession.

Paul when writing to Timothy said “Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses.”(I Timothy 6:12)

The Church Is Built on The Fact of The Confession.

Matthew 16:16-18 states “And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God. And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou Simon Barjona for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven. And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock [Peter’s confession] I will build my church and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.”

Notable One’s Making Confession:

There is a supreme dignity in the good confession. Notice some Biblical examples of those who have made the good confession:

  • Jehovah made the confession (Matt.3:17; 17:5)
  • Jesus made the confession (Matt. 26:63,64; Matt. 27:43)
  • Peter made the confession (Matt. 16:16)
  • Martha made the confession (John 11:27)
  • Stephen made the confession (Acts 7:55,56)
  • Timothy made the confession (I Tim. 6:12)

Happy Results:

Christ shall confess us before the Father and the angels. (Matt. 10:32); Luke 12:8)

We Must Live Faithful to Our Confession.

In Hebrews 4:14, we are admonished to “hold fast our profession.” We are to be faithful in all things (Hebrews 10:24,25). We are to be stedfast (Acts 2:42), We are to be faithful unto death (Revelation 2:10)

Dire Warnings of Not Confessing Christ:

Christ will deny those who do not confess Him and do not have God.(Matthew 10:33 and I John 2:23)

Eventually Everyone Will Confess Christ.

At the judgment “every knee shall bow to me, and every tongue shall confess to God.”(Romans 14:11) However that will be too late. We must confess him in this life.

In Conclusion:

We must confess before men that Jesus is the Christ, the son of God. It is necessary for salvation. (Romans 10:9.10) Remember, it’s all easy. Jesus said “My yoke is easy and my burden is light.” (Matt.11:28-30)
